UK Salary Calculator is a small independent project. It exists because working out what a salary is actually worth after tax, National Insurance, a student loan and a pension takes longer than it should, and most of the answers online are either out of date or hedged into uselessness.
We read everything that comes in, and corrections get priority over everything else.
We aim to reply within two to three working days. Corrections to a rate or a calculation are usually answered sooner, because they affect everyone using the site. If a fix is needed we will tell you when it has gone live.
There is no contact form and no newsletter. Email is the only channel, and your address is used to reply to you and nothing else — see the privacy policy.
What to write in about
A figure looks wrong
This is the message we most want to get. Tell us the salary and the settings you used, what the calculator showed, and what you expected instead — ideally with the source you checked against. Every rate on the site is traceable to an HMRC or gov.scot page, so a mismatch is either a bug worth fixing or a difference worth explaining.
You want to know how a number was worked out
Most answers are already on the how we calculate page, which sets out the method and what the calculator deliberately leaves out. If yours is not covered there, ask — the reply usually improves that page too.
A calculator is missing
We add calculators when enough people ask for the same one. Tell us what you were trying to work out and what you had to do instead; that is more useful than a feature name.
Press, partnerships or anything else
Same address. Please say which in the subject line so it reaches the right place.
What we cannot do
We are not accountants and we are not regulated to give financial advice, so there are questions we have to decline — not to be unhelpful, but because a wrong answer to any of them costs real money:
- Tell you what to do about your own tax position, a tax code dispute or an HMRC letter.
- Determine your IR35 status, or review a contract.
- Advise on whether to incorporate, take dividends, or make a particular pension contribution.
- Handle anything that needs your personal details — please do not send us your National Insurance number, tax reference or payslips.
For any of those, speak to a qualified accountant or tax adviser. HMRC's own helplines can also correct a tax code, which is usually faster than anything else.
Before you write
These three pages answer most of what reaches us: how we calculate for the method and its limits, UK tax codes explained if your take-home does not match your payslip, and privacy for what happens to your data. Every calculator also lists the official sources behind its figures at the bottom of the page.
A note on advice
Everything on this site is guidance, not tax advice. The figures are checked against official sources and were last reviewed , but they cannot account for your own circumstances.
